About the Finnish Film Affair

The Finnish Film Affair is an initiative of Helsinki International Film Festival – Love & Anarchy offering an industry sidebar to the festival. The event is a showcase of Finnish films and a networking platform for attending industry professionals. The country’s main film industry event takes place yearly in a welcoming and laid-back but highly efficient and professional setting.
 
Attending sales agents, distributors, festival programmers, TV buyers, and representatives of the press have an opportunity to get to know to the latest and upcoming Finnish feature films and documentaries. Approximately 300 film industry professionals from Finland and abroad are expected to attend yearly.
 
The fourth edition of the Finnish Film Affair will take place in Helsinki for three days in the end of September, from September 22 to 24, 2015.
 
The event is a joint venture of several film organizations in Finland, such as the Finnish Film Foundation, Favex - Finnish Film & Audiovisual Export, Creative Europe / Media, Commission Helsinki and Central Organisation of Finnish Film Producers
 
The Programme 2015
 
The programming focus will be on about 30 domestic titles with a wide range of genres. In addition to the screenings of approximately 15 recent releases, the works in progress showcase will present about 15 productions in development, pitched by the filmmakers. Besides the Finnish titles, the participants have a chance to see recent Nordic, Estonian and Russian films featured in the festival programme.

The industry program also includes one to one meetings and networking events for international and domestic participants. In addition the event offers panels and workshops aimed mainly at domestic feature film producers.

The submissions will be open in May-June 2015 for domestic productions. The full line up will be announced in August.

The Finnish films in the line up can be screened year round in the online platform of the event. Background
 
Finland produces an average of about 30 feature films a year. In 2014 altogether 32 Finnish films were screened in domestic cinemas, of which 12 were documentaries. The local share of the box office in 2014 was 27%.
 
The home of the Finnish Film Affair - the Helsinki International Film Festival - has a steady position as the largest film festival in Finland. The festival aims to promote the artistry of filmmaking by presenting inventive, controversial and visually stunning new films. The 27th edition of the festival in 2014 achieved a record-breaking attendance of over 60 000 admissions. The festival programme consists of about 180 feature films and 160 short films from all over the world in 450 screenings on 15 screens.
